A Detroit retailer that markets itself as offering apparel for "the expressive and edgy soul" is making a shift.

Women's clothing boutique Bird Bee in a Tuesday social media post announced plans to close its Capitol Park storefront on Sept. 16.

The business going forward will operate online only, according to Bird Bee founder and owner Taylor Pettit, who wrote in the post that she opted against renewing a lease for the downtown Detroit space. The online-only store will open during the 2023 holiday season.

Bird Bee, located at 1228 Griswold St. a block west of Woodward Avenue, opened in 2017.

"It's time for a new adventure," the post reads. "To our past customers, friends, neighbors (and employees) — thank you for the last six years. We are so excited to begin a new chapter as we close this one out on Griswold Street."

Pettit was not immediately available for comment, but wrote in the post that a closing sale will begin Aug. 9. Gift cards will be honored on the store website once the brick-and-mortar location closes.

"We are grateful and proud to have been one of the very first boutiques of our kind to open up downtown and bring unique fashion pieces to so many amazing women over the years. You may still see us around at pop-ups and events, but for the foreseeable future, we'll be enjoying some peace."
